Adjustable Power and Built-in Display
The SMOK Novo X is the first device in the Novo series with a display and fully adjustable power. Prior to the Novo X, all Novo devices were simple puff-activated vapes with no settings or features to change – all that you needed to do was charge the battery, fill the pod and vape. The fact that the Novo X has adjustable wattage does add a touch of complexity to the experience, although it’s likely that many people will simply find their favorite wattage and forget about the feature altogether.
Improved Airflow and Leak Resistance
The Novo X features a redesigned pod with dual u-shaped airflow channels that bring air in from the sides of the pod and loop it through the bottom of the coil. The increased airflow allows the Novo X to produce much bigger clouds compared to previous Novo vapes, and the system is also very leak resistant since the intake vents are positioned above the coil rather than below it.
Updated Design and Colors

Initial Setup and Charging
- Connect the SMOK Novo X to your computer using the charging cable included in the box. When the battery meter on the screen is full, the device is ready to use. You can fill the pod while you’re waiting.
- To fill the pod, remove it from the device and open the silicone filling plug in the side. Add e-liquid through the filling port until the pod is nearly full and close the plug securely. Because you’ll need to wait at least five minutes for the e-liquid to saturate the coil completely, it’s a good idea to do this while you’re waiting for the Novo X to charge.
Vaping
- Turn the SMOK Novo X on by pressing the button five times if the screen isn’t already on.

How to Fix Problems with the SMOK Novo X

No Atomizer or Ohms Too Low Error
- Make sure that you’re using the correct pod. Although it’s possible that other pods may fit the device’s chamber, the Novo X is only designed to work with Novo X pods.
- Check under the pod to see if e-liquid has leaked out of it. If you find vape juice under the pod, dry it thoroughly with paper towels or cotton swabs.
- Clean the contacts in the device and on the bottom of the pod.
- Replace the pod if you continue to see the error.
Leaking
- When you refill the Novo X pod, don’t add too much e-liquid. If the pod is overfilled, some of the vape juice will be pushed out when you close the stopper.
- Make sure that the stopper is always firmly closed after you refill the pod.
- Puff gently when you use the Novo X. If you use too much air pressure, the atomizer coil may flood with excess e-liquid.
Not Working or Not Turning On
- Charge the battery.
- Press the button five times to turn the Novo X on.
Not Charging
- Replace the charging cable.
- Try charging the Novo X through a different power source.
- Clean the charging port. You can use a toothpick to remove dust or lint lodged inside the port.
SMOK Novo X Review: Our Expert Perspective
The SMOK Novo X is a worthy addition to the Novo product range. The slightly refined design brings some nice modernization to the Novo series, although the Novo X still looks like a Novo – which is a good thing since Novo vapes always looked nice in the first place.
The addition of adjustable wattage is also a nice feature that many Novo fans have wanted to see. If you’re using one of the older Novo vapes without adjustable wattage and are concerned that it’s going to make your experience more complex in an unwanted way, you really shouldn’t be worried. Since all Novo X pods have the same resistance, they’ll all offer essentially the same performance at a given wattage. It’s likely that you’ll spend a few minutes finding your ideal power level, and then you’ll never think about it again.
Overall, the SMOK Novo X is a worthy addition to the Novo range and one that we can definitely recommend buying if you’re using one of the older Novo vapes and want something that offers a bit more in the feature department.
