Why Is My Geek Vape Leaking

Few things in vaping are more annoying than a device that leaks. At best, a leaking Geek Vape results in wasted e-liquid and a mess that you’ll need to clean up. At worst, though, a severe leak can contaminate your device’s internal components with e-liquid and cause your vape to stop working entirely. So, why is your Geek Vape leaking? Most likely, it’s because of a simple misconfiguration or misalignment of the components, which means that you can fix the problem in seconds once you’ve found the cause. In this article, we’ll explain everything that you need to know.

Clean Your Geek Vape Before Troubleshooting a Leak

Before you can fix a leak, you'll need to dry your Geek Vape thoroughly.

Before you can begin troubleshooting the issue and fixing your leaking Geek Vape device, you need to clean the leak and remove any e-liquid that may have gotten inside the device and contaminated its components. Here’s how to do it.

  • Remove the tank or pod and use paper towels to absorb all of the e-liquid on that component and on your device.
  • If you’re using a Geek Vape mod and e-liquid has gotten inside the 510 threading, you can use a cotton swab to dry the threading.
  • If you’re using a Geek Vape pod system, you may need to remove e-liquid from inside the device’s airflow channel.
    • Hold a paper towel over the chamber at the top of the device where the pod would normally be.
    • Locate the air intake vent, which will usually be on the side of the device, somewhere near where the bottom of the pod would be.
    • Blow firmly through the intake vent. If e-liquid is stuck inside the vent, it’ll come out through the device’s chamber, and the paper towel will absorb it.
    • Continue blowing through the vent until no more vape juice comes out.
    • Clear away any remaining e-liquid before using the device again.

Reduce the Intensity of Your Puffs

When you’re vaping for the first time, one of the most important things you’ll need to learn is how to inhale properly. You need to inhale much more gently than you would when smoking a cigarette. That’s especially important with a small pod system like the Geek Vape Aegis Q. The more pocketable a vape is, the smaller its intake vent will be. A vape with a very small intake can only manage a limited level of airflow before the excess pressure causes the device’s atomizer coil assembly to flood – and if that happens, your Geek Vape will leak.

If you’re using a puff-activated device, it’s easy to know whether you’re using the correct amount of air pressure. When your Geek Vape’s light turns on, you’re inhaling as firmly as you should. Remember that the key is to take slow, steady drags. The longer you inhale, the more vapor you’ll get. You don’t want to take short, firm puffs as if you were smoking a cigarette.

Make Sure the Coil Is Installed Properly

Your Geek Vape may leak if the coil is oriented incorrectly and isn't pushed all the way in.

If your Geek Vape leaks after you install a new coil, it’s possible that the coil isn’t pushed all the way in because it isn’t installed correctly. This is common with any Geek Vape coils that are keyed for correct orientation, such as Geek Vape B-Series coils. If you look at the bottom of a coil, you’ll see that the base has a flat edge. The flat part of the coil needs to align with the flat edge at the bottom of your pod or pod or at the bottom of your tank’s chimney. If the coil isn’t properly aligned, you won’t be able to push it in all the way, and your Geek Vape will leak.

Don’t Overfill Your Pod

Are you using a Geek Vape pod system? If so, your pod’s filling port is closed with a silicone plug that fills the gaps around the edge of the port and helps to prevent the pod from leaking. A small portion of the plug actually goes inside the port, which means that you need to leave a little empty space for the plug when you fill the pod. If you don’t, you’ll push a little vape juice out of the pod when you close the pod’s filling port. Don’t fill your pod all the way to the top; leave a little empty space for the plug.

Make Sure the Tank or Pod Is Completely Closed

To prevent a leaking Geek Vape, close the plug fully after refilling your pod.

Another important aspect of refilling your Geek Vape device is closing the pod or tank completely after adding your vape juice. The right way to do this depends on the type of device you’re using.

  • If you’re using a pod vape, make sure that the silicone plug is pushed all the way into the filling port.
  • If you’re using a vape tank, make sure that the lid is closed. We’ll provide directions for a few popular Geek Vape tanks.
    • If you’re using the Geek Vape Z tank, screw the top hardware back on carefully, making sure that the components aren’t cross-threaded. Make sure that the lid is on tightly, but don’t over-tighten it.
    • If you’re using the Geek Vape Z FLI tank, flip the lid down and then slide it laterally.
    • If you’re using the Geek Vape Z SE tank, swivel the lid back to its original position until the release button clicks.

Make Sure the Tank Is Assembled Correctly

Making sure that the parts are assembled correctly can help you fix a leaking Geek Vape tank.

With all modern Geek Vape tanks, you replace your coil in the same way. You unscrew and remove the tank’s bottom hardware, pull the old coil out of the tank’s chimney and push the new coil in. Since you’ll need to replace your coil every few days, you’ll be doing this fairly often. Any time you disassemble your tank – whether it’s for cleaning or for replacing the coil – you need to reassemble it correctly to prevent leaking.

When you reassemble the tank on your Geek Vape, you should always turn the threads slowly and carefully to ensure that they aren’t crossed. If you feel resistance, don’t force it. Back the components up and continue trying to twist them together until they turn smoothly. Make sure that the components are fully tightened – but don’t twist them together so tightly that you’ll have difficulty disconnecting them again. A vape tank should be just finger tight.

Check Your Tank for Damaged Gaskets

If you’re using a Geek Vape mod with a vape tank and have been using the same tank for a while, it’s a good idea to disassemble and examine the tank in the event of a persistent leak. Check all of the silicone gaskets in the tank’s upper hardware, lower hardware and chimney. Are any of the gaskets torn or stretched out of place? If so, that’s why almost every vape tank includes a set of replacement gaskets. Pull the damaged gaskets out of their slots and push in the replacements. You should find that this resolves the leak.

Use a Thicker E-Liquid

Do you live in a region of the world where vape juice that’s high in propylene glycol is still commonly available? Although vape juice with a PG/VG ratio high in PG isn’t common in the United States, it is still somewhat common in other regions of the world such as the United Kingdom. High-PG e-liquid is very thin, and it’s appropriate for use only in the smallest vaping devices. Most modern pod vapes – and almost all vape mods – work best with e-liquid that has a PG/VG ratio of at least 50/50. If your e-liquid is too thin, it’ll flow through the coil’s wick openings too quickly and will ultimately leak out from the bottom of the tank or pod.

Replace the Coil

If your Geek Vape continues to have a persistent leak after you’ve tried all of the other tips in this article, it’s time to try replacing the coil. Like all major vape manufacturers, Geek Vape manufactures their coils according to very tight tolerances and tests them thoroughly before boxing and shipping them. It’s very rare to get a dud, but it’s possible that your Geek Vape is leaking because of an issue with your coil’s wick or gaskets. If that’s the case, replacing the coil will fix the problem.
