It’s hard to believe that Voopoo Drag vapes have been around for almost a decade at this point. Originally released in 2017, the first Voopoo Drag was easily one of the most advanced vape mods that anyone had ever seen. It sported a new chipset capable of making any vape coil fire instantly, eliminating the lengthy ramp-up times that had previously been necessary with high-end coils and tanks. People absolutely loved it, and Voopoo’s Gene chipset has only become more powerful since then.
The new Voopoo Drag 5 is easily the most advanced – not to mention the most luxurious – vape mod that’s ever hit the market. Between the leather trim and the new technical features that promise to simplify your vaping experience, this is the last vape mod that you’ll need to buy for a long time.

How Much Does the Voopoo Drag 5 Cost?

The Voopoo Drag 5 is available in two forms: as a full kit with a tank and as the mod only. Here are the prices of the two versions and what they include.
- Voopoo Drag 5 Kit: Costs $54.49 and includes the Drag 5 mod and the UForce-X tank along with two coils, a replacement glass enclosure, a set of replacement gaskets, a charging cable and an instruction manual.
- Voopoo Drag 5 Mod: Costs $45.99 and includes the Drag 5 mod along with a charging cable and an instruction manual.
Considering the small price difference between the two packages and the fact that the UForce-X tank would obviously cost significantly more on its own, the full Drag 5 kit is the better deal if you’re at all interested in trying a new vape tank. If you already have a tank that you love, on the other hand, you can save a little money by buying the Drag 5 mod on its own.
The Voopoo UForce-X tank uses PnP-X coils, which cost $12.95 per pack of five and are available in resistances ranging from 0.15 to 1.0 ohm. Since it’s always possible for a coil to burn out prematurely, we suggest adding an extra box of coils to your order unless you already have some on hand.
Voopoo Drag 5 vs. Drag 4: What Are the New Features?
The Voopoo Drag 4 and Drag 5 have some similarities in their specifications. Both use the Gene.TT 2.0 chipset, and both are dual-battery mods that operate at up to 177 watts. There’s a significant cosmetic difference between the two, but the Drag 5 has some new features under the hood that might matter to you as well. These are the highlights.
Outer Leather Wrap

The thing that makes the Drag 5 feel so luxurious compared to other vape mods is the new C-shaped magnetic leather wrap that covers the battery compartment and serves as the device’s exterior. The wrap looks and feels great, of course, but it also serves an important function because it provides easy access to the batteries. If you’ve ever been frustrated by tight-fitting battery compartments – maybe you’ve even torn a battery wrapper or two – we think you’ll agree that the magnetic wrap is a much better way of doing things.
New Battery Evaluation Feature

As an added safety feature, the Drag 5 has the ability to evaluate the condition of both installed batteries and tell you if one of them has a problem. If there’s an issue with one of the battery cells, the Drag 5 will display an icon of an exclamation point inside a red triangle. The screen also indicates which of the two cells has a problem.
To try the Drag 5’s battery evaluation feature, open the main menu by pressing the “+” and “-“ buttons simultaneously. Select “BAT EVAL” on the menu.
Upgraded UForce-X Tank and Coils
The Drag 5 kit includes Voopoo’s new UForce-X tank, which uses their latest PnP-X coils. Although you could obviously buy the tank separately and use it with the Drag 4 or any other mod, this is worth calling out as a distinct feature of the Drag 5 because if you’re already thinking about buying a new vape tank, it’s generally much more economical to buy a full vape kit instead since it includes a new mod and costs just a little more. The new PnP-X coils are rated for up to 100 ml of e-liquid usage before their flavor quality begins to degrade.

Voopoo Drag 5 Features

Above, we described the main new features that separate the Voopoo Drag 5 from the older Drag 4. There are also a couple of interesting features that the Drag 5 and Drag 4 share, though, and you’ll want to know about those if you’re new to the Drag series or haven’t bought a new device in a while.
Huge Selection of Vaping Modes
If you’re a picky vaper, you’ll be glad to know that the Drag 5 has basically every vaping mode you could possibly want. You can select your mode by opening the main menu, which is done by pressing the “+” and “-“ buttons simultaneously. The Drag 5 offers the following vaping modes.
- Smart: In this mode, the Drag 5 automatically selects an appropriate wattage for maximum flavor quality without burnt hits or premature coil damage.
- RBA: In this mode, you have full control over the Drag 5 and can select whatever wattage you prefer.
- Eco: In this mode, the Drag 5 reduces its output slightly to maximize battery life.
- Temperature Control: In this mode, the Drag 5 detects and automatically limits the temperature with compatible coils.
This selection of modes should please just about everyone, but there are two potential shortcomings that you’ll need to be aware of if you’re especially picky.
- In the RBA mode, a custom power delivery curve isn’t available as we’ve seen with some other mods. You can only select a single operational wattage.
- In the Temperature Control mode, a custom temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) isn’t available. You can choose between four presets for nickel, titanium, SS316 and SS430 coils.
Multifunction Switch
One of our favorite features of the Voopoo Drag 5 is a switch that essentially serves as a shortcut, giving you quick access to your choice of three different functions. Those functions are:
- On/Off: In this mode, the switch turns the Voopoo Drag 5 on and off.
- Device Lock: In this mode, the switch locks and unlocks the Voopoo Drag 5’s fire button but doesn’t turn the entire device on and off.
- Power Lock: In this mode, the switch locks your current wattage setting and prevents it from being changed due to an accidental button press.
Voopoo Drag 5 Review: Our Expert Perspective
With all of the emphasis these days on disposable vapes and other small vaping devices, it’s getting harder than ever to find a traditional full-sized mod that really feels like a true upgrade over previous models. With the release of the new Voopoo Drag 5, though, that upgrade is finally here.
Between advanced features like the automatic battery evaluation mode and the stylish and functional magnetic leather wrap, the Drag 5 really feels like the luxurious vape mod that many Voopoo fans have been wanting for a while. Those features immediately elevate this device to best-in-class status, and the inclusion of the new UForce-X tank should seal the deal for Drag 4 owners.
A few picky vapers will regret the fact that the Drag 5 doesn’t give you the ability to define a custom wattage curve in RBA mode and doesn’t allow you to input a custom TCR in Temperature Control mode. These are niche functions that a lot of people don’t use, but the people who do use them will miss them. Drag 5 owners can potentially hope for those features to be added in a future firmware update.
