The reason why it’s so small is because it uses an All-in-One (AIO) design, which means that the tank doesn’t connect to threading at the top of the device and is instead part of the device itself. The coil screws directly into the top of the battery, and the glass enclosure snaps over it. The AIO design is a great space-saving arrangement that makes the Vape Pen V2 just 117.7 mm long and 22 mm wide despite the fact that it’s designed for real cloud chasing. This is a full-on cloud chasing device designed for direct-to-lung inhaling and low-strength freebase e-liquids – normally the type of scenario that would require a full-sized vape mod or pod mod. Modified Bypass Vaping Mode
The SMOK Vape Pen V2 has a unique vaping mode that’s essentially a modified bypass mode. In bypass mode, a vape’s power regulation circuitry is normally bypassed – hence the name – which allows the device to output the battery’s full available power at all times. The Vape Pen V2 uses a similar type of vaping mode, but the output is limited to a maximum of 4 volts and 60 watts. The benefit is that the gradual decrease in vapor production as the battery is depleted – which always happens with a vape that uses bypass mode – is less noticeable than with other devices. By the time you notice that the Vape Pen V2’s vapor production has started to drop, the battery will be basically dead.
How to Use the SMOK Vape Pen V2
If you’ve never used an AIO vape before, you might not be able to just pick the device up and start vaping as you can with other types of vapes. The SMOK Vape Pen V2 works a little differently, and SMOK’s printed manual is unfortunately a bit lacking when it comes to some of the details that you need to know. To help you get started, we’ll include a brief instruction manual in this review.
Charging
To charge the Vape Pen V2, connect it to your computer using the charging cable included in the box. The three lights above the fire button illuminate gradually as the battery approaches a full charge. When the Vape Pen V2 is fully charged, the lights turn off.
Filling
The top section of the Vape Pen V2 tank consists of two parts: the mouthpiece/lid and the anchor that holds the tank together. To fill the Vape Pen V2, grasp the mouthpiece – not the anchor – and twist it counterclockwise to open the tank. Add your e-liquid through one of the side filling holes, avoiding the tank’s center air channel. Replace the mouthpiece and wait about five minutes before vaping.
When you look at the side of the coil in the Vape Pen V2, you’ll see a line marked “MIN.” Refill the tank when the e-liquid reaches the line.
Using the Vape Pen V2
The SMOK Vape Pen V2 uses a single-button control scheme, but you’ll get used to it quickly because there are only a few commands that you need to remember.
- To vape: Press and hold the fire button.
- To turn the device on or off: Press the fire button five times. The lights flash in response.
- To check the battery: Press the fire button twice. The lights indicate the battery’s current charge level. If all three lights are on, the battery is nearly full.
Replacing the Coil
Replacing the coil is an aspect of using the Vape Pen V2 that you’ll probably find quite different compared to any other vape that you’ve owned. Here’s how to do it.
- To avoid a leak, use the Vape Pen V2 until the tank is empty.
- Grasp the top black section of the tank and twist it counterclockwise to open the tank. This removes the tank’s entire top section, exposing the coil.
- Turn the coil counterclockwise to remove it. If you have trouble reaching the coil, you can remove the tank’s glass enclosure for easier access. The glass is held in place with rubber gaskets that help to prevent leaks, so you should remove it only when it’s really necessary.
- Install the new coil and turn it clockwise to tighten it.
- Reassemble and fill the tank. Wait about five minutes before vaping. If you have difficulty getting the glass over the silicone gaskets, rub a little e-liquid on the inside of the glass.
You can expect a SMOK Vape Pen V2 coil to last about a week before the flavor changes, although coil life will depend on how sweet your e-liquid is and how heavily you vape. When you’re no longer happy with the flavor, it’s time for a new coil.

Overall, the SMOK Vape Pen V2 is basically a perfect product if you fall into a certain subset of the vaping community. If you want the smallest possible device that produces the biggest possible clouds, you’re probably going to find that the Vape Pen V2 is absolutely perfect for you.
AIO vapes do have a couple of drawbacks, and the Vape Pen V2 isn’t immune to those issues. Mainly, you have to be careful when replacing the coil because it’s possible to inadvertently knock the glass enclosure off of the device if you aren’t careful. That can make coil replacements a bit messy sometimes.
