Voopoo Drag X2 Review

In the world of advanced vaping, it’s safe to say that the pod mod is definitely king these days. That’s partially because pod mods are some of the most fashionable types of vapes on the market right now and partially because the advent of mesh coils has made the old two-battery vapes of the past largely irrelevant for many people. Unless having the longest possible battery life is your main concern, there’s little need to have a 200-watt mod since mesh coils can produce huge clouds without needing anywhere near that level of power.

That brings us to our subject for today. In the VapeJuice.com lab, we’ve got the new Voopoo Drag X2. This is the sequel to the original Voopoo Drag X. In addition to sporting a great-looking visual overhaul, the Drag X2 – and its sister device, the Voopoo Drag S2 – are the first devices to support the brand-new Voopoo PNP X coil platform. If you want to enjoy the latest coil technology that Voopoo has to offer, in other words, you can only get it right here.

So, is the Voopoo Drag X2 destined to be your next vape? We’ll help you answer that question in this expert review.

View the Voopoo Drag X2 now. It costs just $30.99 and is available in 11 great colors. The Drag X2 requires one 18650 battery, which is not included. If you prefer a device with a built-in battery, consider the Voopoo Drag S2, which has similar features but uses a built-in battery.

How Much Does the Voopoo Drag X2 Cost?

The Voopoo Drag X2 Operates at up to 80 watts.

The Voopoo Drag X2 kit costs $30.99 and comes with the device along with one Voopoo PNP X pod, two Voopoo PNP X coils, a charging cable, an instruction manual and a card explaining the Voopoo PNP X platform. Since the PNP X pod has a removable coil and is easy to rinse, there’s no reason to add a replacement pod to your order unless you want to have the ability to switch flavors easily by swapping pods. We do suggest adding a box of coils to your order, though, to ensure that you’ll have replacements available if you need them.

Voopoo Drag X2: Specifications and Features

Let’s get to know the Voopoo Drag X2 a bit better. Here are the basic specifications of this device along with its three most notable features.

Specs

  • Device Type: Pod-based vape mod
  • Battery Capacity: One removable 18650 battery (not included)
  • Power Range: 5-80 watts
  • Charging Port: USB-C
  • Pod Capacity: 5 ml
  • Supported Coils: Voopoo PNP X coils

Features

  • The Drag X2 and S2 are the first devices from Voopoo to use the new PNP X coil platform. We’ll discuss the features of PNP X coils at greater length momentarily.
  • It offers three vaping modes. Smart mode automatically suggests the ideal wattage for the installed coil, while Eco mode conserves the device’s battery life while minimizing any reduction in the vapor production. RBA mode allows you to choose your own wattage.
  • The PNP pod has top airflow channels. Combined with the redesigned coils, this feature helps to make leaking essentially nonexistent.

How Do the Voopoo Drag X2 and Drag X Compare?

The Voopoo Drag X2 offers three different vaping modes.

If you already own the original Voopoo Drag X, you might be curious as to how it compares to the new Drag X2 and whether it would be worthwhile to upgrade. Compared to the original Drag X, the Drag X2 has an updated appearance and a refined interface. The devices have similar technical capabilities, though, with the main difference being the coils that they use. The original Drag X uses Voopoo PNP coils, and the Drag X2 uses PNP X coils. So, if you have the original Drag X and want to know if you should upgrade, the main thing you should ask yourself is whether you want to try Voopoo’s latest coils. We’ll discuss those next.

What Is the Voopoo PNP X Coil Platform?

The Voopoo Drag X2 kit includes two replacement coils.

The Voopoo Drag X2 uses the new Voopoo PNP X coil system, which at the time of writing is only compatible with the Drag X2 and the Drag S2 devices. Voopoo has long been one of the vaping industry’s technological leaders, and if you want to enjoy the company’s latest technology, you’ll need to buy the Drag X2 or the Drag S2 – there’s no way around it. So, what’s special about Voopoo PNP X coils?

  • The different coils in the series have slightly different airflow characteristics, enabling each coil to deliver the ideal experience. In addition to the fixed airflow channels on the coil itself, the PNP X pod also has adjustable airflow.
  • Each coil has four silicone gaskets to provide superior leak resistance.
  • The coils last much longer than other coils before burning out. According to Voopoo, you can go through at least 100 ml of vape juice with each PNP X coil. The coil’s longevity comes from a redesigned mesh structure and a new type of cotton that provides increased thermal stability.
  • Voopoo has implemented a new automated production line that helps to keep the prices for the PNP X coils as low as they can possibly be. A box of five coils costs just $12.95 at VapeJuice.com; that’s much less than what many other current coils cost.

How to Use the Voopoo Drag X2

The Voopoo Drag X2 has a magnetic pod that lifts away for easy refills and coil replacements.

Now that you have a better idea of what the Voopoo Drag X2 is and what kind of experience you can expect to have with it, it’s time to learn how to use this device. If you’ve already owned another vape mod or pod mod, using the Drag X2 will probably be second nature to you. If you’re upgrading to this device after using disposable vapes, though, you might find it helpful to have a few pointers. Here’s how to use the Voopoo Drag X2.

  • Installing the Battery: Lift the battery cover off of the device. Slide the battery into the compartment, making sure that the positive and negative terminals match the indicators in the compartment. Replace the battery cover. The Drag X2 doesn’t include a battery, so you’ll need to provide your own. Voopoo recommends using a battery with a discharge rating of at least 30 amps.
  • Charging the Battery: Connect the Voopoo Drag X2 to your computer using the included charging cable. While the battery charges, a percentage meter appears on the screen. The battery is fully charged when the meter reaches 100 percent.
  • Filling the Pod: Lift the pod off of the device and locate the silicone cover for the filling port. Open the cover, add your e-liquid through the port and close the cover. If this is the first time you’re using the PNP X pod or have just installed a new coil, allow several minutes for the coil to absorb the e-liquid before vaping.
  • Vaping: Hold the fire button and inhale through the pod’s mouthpiece to vape.
  • Adjusting the Airflow: Rotate the ring at the top of the pod to adjust the airflow.
  • Adjusting the Settings: To open the menu, press the “+” and “-“ buttons simultaneously. Press “+” or “-“ to switch between options and press the fire button to confirm. Through the menu system, you can select from the device’s three vaping modes and reset the puff counter. When the Drag X2 is in RBA mode, you can adjust the wattage by pressing the “+” and “-“ buttons.
  • Replacing the Coil: Lift the pod off of the device and turn it upside down. Grasp the coil by its base and pull it straight up to remove it from the pod. Push the new coil in. Every time you remove the pod from the Drag X2, we suggest using a paper towel or cotton swab to dry any condensation under the pod.

How to Fix Problems with the Voopoo Drag X2

The instruction manual for the Voopoo Drag X2 includes a list of the various error conditions that the device can encounter, but one shortcoming is that it doesn’t actually offer any help for fixing those errors. Here’s how to fix the problems that you might encounter with the Drag X2.

  • Check Battery: This error message could mean that the battery is dead or installed incorrectly. If the battery was working before the error appeared, it’s time to recharge it. If the battery has never worked, check it to confirm that the positive and negative terminals match the indicators in the battery compartment.
  • Max Power: This isn’t an error; it simply indicates that you’ve pressed the “+” button when the Drag X2 was already set to a power level of 80 watts. That’s as high as this device goes.
  • Temp High: This error indicates that the internal temperature of the Drag X2 is too high for safe vaping. Move the device to a cooler environment and allow it to return to room temperature before you resume vaping.
  • Time Out: This error indicates that you’ve taken a very long puff and exceeded the Drag X2’s puff limiter. Take shorter puffs to avoid this message.
  • Atomizer Short or Check Atomizer: These errors indicate that the connected coil has an electrical problem or isn’t detected by the device. Remove the pod and make sure that the coil is pushed all the way in. Dry the device and the bottom of the pod completely with a paper towel or cotton swab. If the error message continues to appear, install a new coil.
