Since the release of the first Vaporesso XROS device in 2020, the XROS series has competed head-on with the Uwell Caliburn series for the title of the world’s most popular series of small refillable pod vapes. For many people, XROS devices just have the best combination of everything. They’re small, simple and easy to use, but they also offer excellent flavor quality and vapor production. They also look great.
The only problem with buying a Vaporesso XROS device is that, if it’s your first vape, it might not be easy to figure out which one you should buy because the different devices look fairly similar to one another. You could just buy the one with the biggest number, of course, but you could end up spending more money than necessary – and almost every device in the XROS series is still available to purchase.
You might have questions even if you already own an XROS vape. Is the next device in the series really better than what you’re currently using, or would it be pretty much the same experience with a fancier outer shell?
In this guide, we’ll attempt to answer those questions and help you with your purchase. Here’s a complete overview of every device in the Vaporesso XROS series. Before we discuss the individual devices, though, we’ll answer a few important questions that will apply no matter which XROS vape you’re considering buying.
Vaporesso XROS FAQ
Why Are XROS Vapes So Popular?
People love XROS vapes because they’re tiny, stylish and straightforward while also providing top-quality flavor and vapor production. From the beginning, XROS vapes have had important features like mesh coils and adjustable airflow without bogging users down in unnecessary complications. The fact that these devices have gotten so many things right has helped to make them extremely successful.
Are All XROS Pods Compatible?
Yes. All Vaporesso XROS pods are compatible with the full range of XROS vapes, which is a hugely beneficial feature that allows you to upgrade to a new device – or switch between devices whenever you like – without needing to buy multiple types of pods or worry about compatibility issues.
What Do the “XROS Mini” and “XROS Nano” Designations Mean?
The XROS Mini devices are a bit smaller than the standard XROS devices while retaining the same stick shape. Because of the smaller size, their battery life is slightly reduced. The feature sets of the Mini devices are also slightly reduced compared to the full-sized devices.
The XROS Nano devices have a condensed “mini box” shape instead of the standard stick shape.
With that basic information out of the way, let’s explore the different XROS vapes and discuss what makes them different from one another.
Vaporesso XROS Series
- Vaporesso XROS
- Vaporesso XROS Mini
- Vaporesso XROS Nano
This is the original series that introduced the XROS brand to the world. Its features, which are now essentially mainstays of the entire XROS series, include the following:
- The pod uses a mesh coil and has a removable mouthpiece to allow for top filling (Clear pods with side filling ports were introduced later). The pod has an internal silicone valve to prevent the formation of a vacuum that could prevent e-liquid from flowing through the wick. The bottom of the pod is sealed ultrasonically to prevent leaking. The top of the pod remains visible when the pod is installed, allowing you to see your e-liquid supply at a glance.
- The device allows both button-based and draw-based firing, and the airflow is adjustable.
- The battery capacity is 800 mAh, and the device is designed to operate at 11 or 16 watts depending on the resistance of the installed coil.
Differences Between XROS and XROS Mini:
- Despite being shorter than the original XROS, the XROS Mini has a higher-density battery with a capacity of 1,000 mAh.
- The XROS Mini supports puff-based firing only and has no airflow control.
Differences Between XROS and XROS Nano:
- The XROS Nano has a higher battery capacity of 1,000 mAh.
- The XROS Nano supports puff-based firing only. Unlike the XROS Mini, through, the Nano does have airflow control.
Vaporesso XROS 2 Series
The Vaporesso XROS 2 was introduced in 2021. With the XROS 2 and each of the remaining XROS vapes, we’ll discuss the key features that were added or removed compared to the previous device in the series.
Vaporesso never made an XROS 2 Mini or XROS 2 Nano. Perhaps they decided that doing so would be unnecessary because the main difference between the XROS and XROS 2 was a higher battery capacity, which the XROS Mini and XROS Nano already had.
- Like the XROS Mini and XROS Nano, the XROS 2 has an upgraded battery capacity of 1,000 mAh.
- Instead of using a single color-changing battery indicator, the XROS 2 has a bank of four small LEDs to give you a more accurate depiction of the battery’s charge level.
Vaporesso XROS 3 Series
The Vaporesso XROS 3 was introduced in 2022. By this point, Vaporesso had essentially established a release cycle of about one year for new devices in the XROS series.
- For the XROS 3, Vaporesso redesigned the battery indicator again. In this device, the indicator is a multi-color bar positioned near the bottom of the device.
- Vaporesso also gave the XROS 3 a slightly larger airflow opening to allow for the introduction of new pods designed for restricted direct-to-lung inhaling with lower-nicotine e-liquids. Vaporesso also upgraded the new pods with a new mesh coil structure called COREX. Once again, though, no XROS pod is exclusive to a particular device, and the entire XROS series is cross-compatible.
Differences Between XROS 3 and XROS 3 Mini:
- The XROS 3 Mini has the same upgraded battery bar as the XROS 3.
- Like the XROS Mini, the XROS 3 Mini uses inhale-based firing only and doesn’t have adjustable airflow.
Differences Between XROS 3 and XROS 3 Nano:
- The XROS 3 Nano has a very stylized design that’s a bit of a departure for the XROS series.
- Like the XROS Nano, the XROS 3 Nano has adjustable airflow but supports puff-based firing only.
Vaporesso XROS 4 Series
The Vaporesso XROS 4 series was introduced in the first half of 2024 and initially consisted of the XROS 4 and XROS 4 Mini. Vaporesso completed the series with the release of the radically redesigned XROS 4 Nano toward the end of 2024.
- The XROS 4 features three selectable vaping modes (Low, Medium and High). You can switch between the three modes by tapping the fire button three times.
- It also has a redesigned display, which uses icons and a curved multi-color light to show the current vaping mode and the charge level of the battery.
- It comes with a redesigned pod, which features Vaporesso’s new COREX 2.0 mesh coil.
- It has a faster charging rate of up to 2 amps, allowing the battery to charge about twice as quickly.
Differences Between XROS 4 and XROS 4 Mini:
- Unlike previous XROS Mini devices, the XROS 4 Mini has adjustable airflow.
- The XROS 4 Mini supports puff-based firing only and doesn’t have an adjustable power level.
- The XROS 4 Mini doesn’t support 2-amp charging. It has a charging rate of 1 amp like most other XROS vapes.
Differences Between XROS 4 and XROS 4 Nano:
- The XROS 4 Nano represents a significant departure compared to previous devices in the XROS series. In the past, the Nano version of an XROS device was always a slightly feature-reduced version of the main Nano device with a box shape instead of a stick shape. The XROS 4 Nano is different because it actually has several new features that the main XROS 4 lacks. At the time of writing, this is the most capable XROS device that Vaporesso has released.
- The XROS 4 Nano has a greatly increased battery capacity of 1,350 mAh. The battery offers quick charging and can come up to an 80-percent charge in just 20 minutes. Charging the battery fully takes about a half hour.
- It offers full wattage control when it’s used with the 0.4-ohm XROS pod. With other XROS pods, it offers three selectable power levels.
- It has a large full-color display with three selectable themes. It’s one of the most vivid displays that any pod vape has ever had.
- It has adjustable airflow and offers both button-based and puff-based firing.
Vaporesso XROS Pro Series
- Vaporesso XROS Pro
The Vaporesso XROS Pro was released at the beginning of 2024 and is actually slightly older than the XROS 4 despite having more advanced capabilities.
- The XROS Pro has adjustable power up to a maximum of 30 watts when used with the new 0.4-ohm XROS pod.
- With other XROS pods, the XROS 4 offers three vaping modes (Eco, Normal and Power).
- It has an upgraded battery capacity of 1,200 mAh and supports a charging rate of up to 2 amps. The battery charges in about 35 minutes.
- To accommodate the extra circuitry and higher-capacity battery, the XROS Pro is a little thicker than other XROS devices.
- The single-button control system has been expanded to allow for multiple functions. It’s two clicks to turn the light on and off, three clicks to adjust the wattage or vaping mode and four clicks to clear the puff counter.
- It has a physical locking switch on the side of the device. Locking the device prevents the use of the fire button, but puff-based firing is still available.
Final Thoughts
With each new device in the XROS series, Vaporesso continues to push the boundaries of what people can expect a slim and light pod system to do. Aside from perhaps the XROS 2 – which only had a higher-capacity battery compared to the original XROS – each new device in the XROS series has included significant new features that definitely warranted the upgrade. We can’t wait to see what Vaporesso brings to the next generation of XROS vapes, and we’re certain that whatever it is will help the company continue increasing its already significant fan base.
