When you vape, it’s completely normal that you’d want to know exactly what you’re inhaling. After all, you’re inhaling it several times a day, every day. Geek Bar ingredients are paradoxically simple and complex at the same time. They’re simple compared to the combustible alternative, but they’re complex because it still takes quite a few ingredients to create those amazing Geek Bar flavors. So, what’s in a Geek Bar? Here’s an overview.
Vegetable Glycerin and Propylene Glycol

Vegetable glycerin and propylene glycol – usually abbreviated as VG and PG – always represent the bulk of what’s in any disposable vape or vape juice. They’re the ingredients that give substance to the e-liquid and make the visible clouds that you inhale and exhale. They also dilute the nicotine and flavors, which are extremely concentrated in their original forms.
Both VG and PG are used in a wide variety of products including foods, beverages, cosmetic products and pharmaceutical products.
VG and PG have slightly different characteristics, so it’s normal for vapes to use both in their e-liquids. Geek Bars and most other disposable vapes typically use a VG/PG ratio of 50/50, although the exact percentages can vary depending on what works best for individual flavors. VG creates bigger clouds and adds sweetness to a flavor profile, while PG creates a more assertive throat hit and allows for better flavor definition.
Flavors
Here’s where things begin to get a little more complicated. Creating a vape flavor isn’t just a matter of adding a few drops of “White Gummy Ice” to a vape and calling it good. An overall flavor profile actually comes from a mix of many ingredients, which is a good thing because it prevents all vapes from tasting the same. The downside is that the exact mix of flavoring ingredients in a given vape is proprietary to that brand, so you’re not going to get a comprehensive list if you’d like to know exactly what’s in a Geek Bar.
A study published in the journal ACS Omega in 2025 analyzed the emissions from Geek Bar and other popular vape brands, finding that some of the most common flavoring agents included:
- Vanillin: Common ingredient in flavoring and perfumery that tastes and smells like vanilla.
- Ethyl Maltol: Common ingredient in flavoring and perfumery that tastes and smells like cotton candy.
- Limonene: Plant-derived terpene that tastes and smells like citrus.
- Linalool: Plant-derived terpene that tastes and smells floral.
Sweeteners

Almost every Geek Bar contains one or more sweeteners to provide flavor enhancement and make the fruit, candy and dessert flavor profiles taste truer to life. This is also true of other disposable vape brands, almost all of which use sweeteners. Some of the sweeteners that you’re likely to find in most Geek Bar flavors include:
- Sucralose: Sucralose is the most common sweetener used in vape juice. It’s sold in stores under the brand name Splenda, and it has an extremely realistic candy-like flavor.
- Neotame: Neotame is a newer alternative sweetener that’s sold under the brand name Newtame and gained regulatory approval for use as a food additive in 2002. It has become increasingly popular as an ingredient in vapes due to its superior heat stability compared to other sweeteners. A 2025 study from Duke University tested the emissions of several popular vapes and found that three Geek Bar flavors included neotame as an ingredient.
- Ethyl Maltol: Ethyl maltol was previously mentioned above as a Geek Bar ingredient for flavor, but it also falls into the sweetener category even though it doesn’t hit your sweet receptors in the way that a true sweetener does. That’s because ethyl maltol has the flavor of cooked sugar and tastes like cotton candy. Even if it isn’t technically “sweet,” it still works as a sweetness enhancer.
- Vegetable Glycerin: Vegetable glycerin isn’t only used as an ingredient in vapes for its cloud production. It’s also a sweetness enhancer because it has a slightly sweet flavor. VG is often used as a sweetener in food products because it doesn’t cause blood sugar spikes in the way that large amounts of sugar would.
If you have a Geek Bar that leaves a lingering candy-like sweetness in your mouth, you can bet that it contains sucralose and/or neotame. If not, it’s probably unsweetened or very lightly sweetened. You can expect plain mint flavors and Clear vapes to contain little to no added sweeteners.
In the past, the use of sweeteners like sucralose in vapes and vape juice was a concern for vapers because those ingredients turned black under heat and caused coil gunk and made vapes taste burnt.
One of the things that has helped to make vapes like the Geek Bar Pulse and Geek Bar Pulse X so popular, though, is the fact that they have dual-coil designs. When you use a Geek Bar in the single-coil mode, it switches from one coil to the other as you vape. Each coil takes twice as long to start developing a layer of coil gunk. By the time it would have started to affect the flavor, you’re out of e-liquid anyway.
Coolants
Vapers like smooth flavors, and that’s led to a trend in disposable vapes where almost every flavor has at least some added coolants. A Geek Bar flavor with “Frozen” or “Ice” in the name may have a very pronounced cooling effect, but even flavors without those terms probably have at least some coolants in their ingredients. Used lightly, a coolant can add smoothness to a vape without noticeably covering or altering the overall flavor profile. The cooling ingredients in Geek Bars are:
- Menthol: Menthol is a natural extract from mint, and it’s the coolant that you’re most accustomed to if you’re a former smoker. Menthol has a very strong cooling effect and a pronounced minty flavor.
- Synthetic Coolants: Geek Bars also typically include synthetic coolants, which were developed by the shaving company Wilkinson Sword and use trade names like WS-23. These cooling agents provide a strong cooling effect similar to menthol, but they don’t impart the same minty flavor. Using synthetic coolants like WS-23 allows Geek Bar and other companies to add coolness and smoothness to their vapes without significantly affecting their flavors.
Nicotine
Most Geek Bars contain nicotine, although nicotine-free products like the Geek Bar Pulse Zero exist for those who prefer nicotine-free vaping. In the past, virtually all of the nicotine used in vapes and vape juice was extracted from tobacco and purified according to pharmaceutical standards. More recently, though, lab-created synthetic nicotine has become more common. All Geek Bars that contain nicotine use synthetic nicotine that’s not derived from tobacco.
Acidulants
All Geek Bars with nicotine contain nicotine salt. Every vape or vape juice containing nicotine salt also includes an acidic ingredient to convert the nicotine from its freebase form to a salt, and benzoic acid is the ingredient that Geek Bars use for that purpose. Benzoic acid is a common food ingredient. Some Geek Bars also contain levulinic acid.
Nicotine salt is the most popular form of nicotine for small vapes because it’s smoother than freebase nicotine at high strengths. Using nicotine salt allows Geek Bars and other small devices to provide a high level of satisfaction even though they don’t have the same cloud production as larger refillable vape kits.
