It’s possible that no vaping company in history has ever iterated and improved on a device more rapidly than Geekvape has with the Wenax series. It feels like they add a new device to the series every few months – and whenever a new device comes out, it immediately makes the previous one look about a year out of date. Well, now that Geekvape has come out with the new Wenax Q Ultra, the entire industry can consider itself on notice. This device doesn’t just make the previous Wenax devices look outdated – it makes practically every pod vape on the market look positively ancient.
With the previous device in the series – the Wenax Q Pro – Geekvape experimented with touch-based controls by adding touch-sensitive panels to the device for changing the wattage and interacting with the menu system. It was a successful experiment and a very stylish one as well, because the touch icons disappeared when they weren’t being used.
The Geekvape Wenax Q Ultra takes that idea to the next level by replacing the entire front panel of the device with a touch-sensitive screen that supports both taps and swipes. If you’ve used other touchscreen vapes in the past and were put off by the fact that they didn’t actually work better than vapes with physical buttons, the Wenax Q Ultra will change your mind completely because it’s just as responsive as a smartphone.

Is having a true touchscreen vape going to change your vaping experience forever? We’re not sure, but we do know that there’s almost no reason to buy any other stick-shaped pod vape at this point. In this review, we’ll give you the scoop.

How Much Does the Geekvape Wenax Q Ultra Cost?

The Geekvape Wenax Q Ultra kit costs $28.49 and is available in eight gorgeous metallic colors. The kit includes the Wenax Q Ultra device along with two Geekvape Q pods, a charging cable and an instruction manual. The Wenax Q Ultra has a particularly nice instruction manual that walks you through everything that you need to know about using the device.
We offer Geekvape Q pods at VapeJuice.com in boxes of three for $7.99. The expected lifespan of the pod is about 7-10 refills, although that can potentially change if you’re using an e-liquid that’s heavily sweetened. If a pod burns out early, you’ll be happy if you have plenty of replacements available – so we recommend adding an extra box of pods to your cart when buying this device unless you’re already an owner of a previous Geekvape Wenax device. All Wenax devices are compatible with all Geekvape Q pods.

Geekvape Wenax Q Ultra: Features

Smartphone-Quality Touch Screen
The highlight of the Geekvape Wenax Q Ultra is obviously the new touch screen, and it’s almost impossible to overstate the importance of this feature because there’s really nothing else like it in the vaping world. Although vape manufacturers have experimented with touch-sensitive displays before, the Wenax Q Ultra is completely different because of its responsiveness and support for swipe gestures. Swiping down opens the menu, and swiping up closes it. While in the menu, swiping from side to side changes the page. Tapping a selection confirms it. The Wenax Q Ultra even wakes automatically when you pick it up, just like a smartphone.

The button-based menu systems on traditional vape mods have always been a bit arcane, but people have put up with the inconvenience because once you have your device set up the way you want it, there’s seldom any need to use the menu again. The Geekvape Wenax Q Ultra might be the first vape that’ll have you playing with the menu system just because it’s fun. When have you ever said that about a vape?
The Geekvape Wenax Q Ultra still retains a physical button for turning the device on and off. You can also click the button three times as a shortcut for getting to the wattage adjustment function.
Logical and Intuitive Interface
Going fully from physical buttons to a touch screen required Geekvape to completely rethink how the interface of a vaping device should look and behave. Geekvape has done exactly that with the Wenax Q Ultra, right down to having a short introductory screen that comes up when you turn the device on for the first time. When you open the menu, it’s immediately obvious what all of the options do. Opening the menu, navigating through the options and closing the menu are also all much faster than they’d be with physical buttons.
The Wenax Q Ultra has a huge variety of features. Some of them are completely new for any vaping device, and some might just be unfamiliar to you if you haven’t bought a new vape in a while. The good news is that if you don’t like some of those features, many of them can be disabled under the “Custom” heading in the menu system. Under this submenu, you can enable or disable:
- The swipe-based device unlocking system
- Vibration-based feedback
- Screen animations during vaping
- Automatic waking when you pick the device up
Compatible with All Geekvape Q Pods
Geekvape Q pods are available in four different resistances ranging from 0.4 to 1.2 ohm at the time of writing. That makes the device appropriate for a wide variety of vaping scenarios ranging from a tight and cool mouth-to-lung draw to a fuller and warmer direct-to-lung hit. Between the availability of different pods, the variable wattage and the adjustable airflow, there’s very little a vape mod can do that the Wenax Q Ultra can’t. While it’s certainly not going to win a cloud competition against a full-sized mod, you’ll be very happy with this device if you’re currently using a larger device and want to switch to something that feels a bit slimmer and lighter in your pocket.
How Does the Geekvape Wenax Q Ultra Compare to the Wenax Q Pro?
As we mentioned in the review’s introduction, Geekvape has updated the Wenax series a few times already since first introducing it. If you don’t own a Wenax vape already, there’s no question that you should definitely buy the Wenax Q Ultra. Let’s suppose, though, that you’re currently using the Wenax Q Pro. How do the Wenax Q Pro vs. Wenax Q Ultra compare, and is it worthwhile to spend the money on an upgrade?
- The biggest difference between the Wenax Q Ultra and Wenax Q Pro is obviously the touch screen. In addition to giving the Wenax Q Ultra a sleeker and more modern appearance, the touch screen introduces a completely new and more intuitive way of interacting with your device.
- The Wenax Q Ultra has an upgraded battery capacity of 1,300 mAh, compared to the 1,200 mAh battery of the Wenax Q Pro. In practice, though, you might not notice an increase in battery life because of the larger and brighter screen.
- The Wenax Q Pro has a manual fire button, but the Wenax Q Ultra offers automatic puff-based firing only.
Since the Wenax Q Ultra and Wenax Q Pro use the same pods and have the same maximum output of 30 watts, you’re not going to notice a difference between the two devices from a flavor or performance standpoint. So, the decision to upgrade from the Wenax Q Pro to the Wenax Q Ultra becomes a question of which device you’d find more enjoyable to use. If you only care about the flavor and vapor production, the two devices are essentially the same. If you think that the touch screen might add something to your vaping experience, though, you’ll definitely want to upgrade.
Geekvape Wenax Q Ultra Review: Our Expert Perspective
There are some people in the vaping community who can’t help but grab any new vape that has an unusually stylish design or a revolutionary new feature. If you’re one of those people, it’s likely that you stopped reading a few paragraphs into this review and have placed your order already. If you’re still on the fence, though, we can say that the Geekvape Wenax Q Ultra just might represent the future for high-end vaping devices. The touchscreen interface of the Wenax Q isn’t just more fun to use than a traditional button-based interface; it’s also easier and faster. We will be shocked if clones of this device don’t start appearing in a very short time.
